Citadel Seeks Baronial Knight Marshal

We must announce that our Baronial Knight Marshal, Lord Charles The Bear, has stepped down from his office in preparation for his departing the Barony.  We would like to take a moment to thank him for his service to the Citadel and to the Knight Marshalate.  He will be greatly missed.

Dominus Caledonius, Deputy Knight Marshal, has agreed to serve as interrim until such time that a new Knight Marshal can be appointed.  Please contact him if you have any questions or concerns regarding marshal activities within the Barony.

Due to Lord Charles’ departure, the Barony is currently looking to fill the position of Knight Marshal. The Knight Marshal is the officer in charge all Baronial combat activities, insuring the safe practice at events and practices within the Barony. The Knight Marshal reports directly to the Kingdom Earl Marshal on a monthly basis regarding the level and types of marshal activities being practiced. The Baronial rapier and archery marshals also report to him or her information regarding the activities in their respective disciplines.

The warrant of the Knight Marshal is two years.

The Road To Estrella War: Arts & Sciences

So we kicked off the Road to Estrella War in the Arts and Sciences this past Friday night at Baronial A&S. Thank you to those who attended and discussed ideas on what they would like to create for the competition.

We will be following up with more A&S nights that are specifically geared towards preparing for St. Edrik, then Queen’s Prize, then culminating with the A&S competition at Estrella War.

With this in mind we are looking for members of our populace that are interested in preparing at least one entry that will eventually go to War, no experience neccessary. We will be walking through the process, step by step, tailored to your own artistic interests. Post here or reach out to Her Excellency and I or Lady Rita if you are interested in participating.

Let’s do our part to sweep the War Point for Arts for the Outlands!

DEMO ALERT: Demo at MGS for KLAQ 95.5 FM

Brandon from the Morning Show at KLAQ 95.5 FM is hosting part of his public Bachelor Party at Military Gamer Supply and the SCA has been invited to provide a demo to help promote participation at the Street Fest coming up in October. The Demo is scheduled for 14 September at MGS and will include several promo spots for other future demos and Citadel events.

This is our chance to start pushing promotional material out beyond our own social media reach and into other media platforms. It also begins to create a further reaching plan that strings our demos and events together. It helps set up our future demos and gets into the minds of potential recruits as we continue to provide exposure to all the awesome things we do, so, on Friday, the 14th we’ll begin our deliberate plan to grow our reach through several means. Show up, fight, display your A&S creations and talk about what the SCA does here and beyond. We’ll also be livestreaming the event through KLAQ and MGS’s YouTube, Facebook and Twitch channels.

One of the specific opportunities we have is to get Brandon into armor and fight Heavy. We also have Niko who is a nationally ranked fencer from the Morning Show. We have a chance to show off our own Light Fighters, so let’s show them what our Dons and Masters are made of! These promotional spots will also helps us promote our presence at the Street Fest and the DJs will also discuss their experiences live on the air.

DEMO ALERT: Imperial Brigade Military Ball

The 11th Air Defense Artillery Brigade has requested support from Citadel for their Military Ball on the 21st of September. Citadel has of course answered the call and will be providing support in several ways from a Fighter and A&S Demo to direct participation in their Military Ball. The Baron and Baroness will be treated as guests in the Imperial Court with members of Citadel acting as Baronial and Imperial Herald, providing a choir and marshaling an Imperial Tournament with fighters acting as champions for each of the Battalions.

The event will consist of two distinct portions. The first will be the Social Hour taking place in front of the Convention Center and is where we will host the A&S and Fighter Combat Demo. Everyone is welcome to participate and join in on the Social Hour. It will serve as a typical demo and we can set up tables with information as well as host our fighting. Please be ready to demo and fight starting at 4:00 PM. That means in armor or having your table display set up, ready to start fighting as people arrive. If that means you have to get there by 3:00 PM, then please plan accordingly. The Social Hour will end around 5:30 PM, but plan to remain until 6:00 PM. No special pass or access is required for this portion.

The second portion of the event includes the dinner itself and the choir and several volunteers have been identified to assist. The combat for this portion will be provided by another group, but we will herald and marshal the fighting. Volunteers for the choir and the heralding/marshaling have been identified already, but we really need fighters for the Social Hour. This is our chance to get in with a unit on post for further recruiting and coordination, so the demo is critical.

Murder! Mystery! Intrigue!

There has been a murder in Citadel on the most glorious weekend of birthday celebrations and championships!

Come, join us for a weekend of mystery and championships on the west side of El Paso, Texas at the BSA Yucca Council Camp Pioneer.

We will be having competitions for Archery, Heavy, Rapier, A&S, Youth Archery, and Youth A&S champions.  Please stay tuned for details on these competitions in the coming weeks!  You don’t want to miss your opportunity to be a CHAMPION!

  • This is a discreetly wet site.
  • Pets must be restrained or on a leash at all times.
  • Campfires are allowed at this time (TBD) in secure fire pits.  Updates will occur if any fire restrictions are in place. Please have a fire extinguisher for each fire. There will be a cigarette butt disposal can near the main hall, please us this instead of trash cans and the ground.

From the I-10 Sunland Park Exit go southwest on Sunland Park Dr. to Doniphan Dr. Turn right on Doniphan Dr. and travel north to Frontera Rd. Turn left on Frontera and travel west to Girl Scott Ln. Turn right on Girl Scott Ln. and travel north until you reach the entrance of the site.

Baronial Arts & Sciences Night this Friday (8/31)

As the summer winds down and we start preparing for the fall and winter feast events we also see that Estrella War is on the not-so-distant horizon.  As part of our preparations, we will be unveiling the Road to Estrella War, which Signore Bernardo will be sharing with you all in the coming months.  We however have deemed it important to get a head start on things in regards to Arts & Sciences, specifically in preparation for the inter-Kingdom Competition held every year at Estrella.

To this end, this upcoming Baronial Arts & Sciences Night will be devoted to beginning the process of preparation of entries that can be taken to completion.  As an added bonus, entries that are created for Estrella War are also eligible to enter in The Citadel’s Art & Sciences Champion Competition that will be held at the Feast of Saint Edrik on October 19-22, 2018, as well as be displayed at Queen’s Prize to be held at Saint Golias Feast Day on October 27 in Socorro, NM.

Join us Friday Night at the Baronial Estate and let us support the Kingdom’s War effort through the Arts & Sciences (there is a war point for Arts).

The Archer: August 23, 2018

ARROW:  Good morning archers!  Please remember, we will NOT be at the EPMArch this weekend, August 25.  We will be up in the cool, green mountains at Silver Lake Campground for HASTILUDE!  Come ready for some fun morning shoots, to include the Barony’s new “bobber target”,  some poker, and a couple other shoots.  In the afternoon, we will have royal rounds, the seasonal challenge, and a modified seasonal challenge that will determine the Hastilude Champion.  After court in the evening, after sunset, we will have a night shoot!  If you want your shoots in the afternoon recorded, please bring wood arrows.  If you will be shooting simply for pleasure, there is no restriction on arrow material.

The weather is MUCH cooler up there than here in El Paso, so please be prepared for a 20-30 degree temperature difference, as well as a chance of rain.

Tomorrow (8/18/2018) looks like a sunny, breezy day with temperatures in the mid to upper 80’s. We will be at the EPMArch at 10am to 1pm this week, followed by Hastilude next weekend!

There will be no archery at EPMArch next weekend, August 25. Instead, come on up to Silver Lake Campground and enjoy a day (or the weekend!) of archery, tournaments, and fun. We will have fun shoots, royal rounds, seasonal challenge, and a night shoot! Don’t let garb or lack of knowledge hold you back, get with any of us for more information and how to get involved.
