Greetings to all! The Citadel of the Southern Pass would like to invite everyone to come join us Saturday March 16 for a historically themed Potluck and A&S project day. Bring your favorite medieval-inspired dish to share with fellow lords and ladies. Whether it’s a savory stew, a delectable dish, or a sweet treat fit for a king, all are welcome. Please inform our Arts and Science minister Lady Àsdis (artsandsciences@southernpass.org) what you would like to bring so that we can coordinate and plan accordingly.
We would also like everyone to bring whatever projects they are working on to share and inspire.
All Saints Episcopal Church 12:30 PM 3500 Mc Rae Blvd. El Paso Tx 79925
We are having a workshop to learn how to make silk banners. We will be making a 12×12 inch silk handkerchief so please bring a 11×11 inch design so that you can trace it onto the silk. If anyone has any supplies such as silk, paint, soft lead pencils etc. that they can share it would be greatly appreciated.
The workshop will on Saturday February 17th at 12:30pm. All Saints Episcopal Church 3500McRae Blvd.
Hail Citadel! it has been a few months since our last Baronial letter, and we apologize! There have been great things happening in the Barony and in the Kingdom since we last wrote. There was the Dona Anna Arts Council Renaissance Fair, al-Barran’s Midwinter, our St. Stephen’s Day revel, Winter Coronation, and tournaments galore at Populace. Oh and Happy New Year!
War practice for War of the Phoenix was super fun and well attended, and we wish safe travels to all who attend it next month. Other upcoming events include Kingdom Arts and Science’s competition in the end of March. We will be working on getting people to go/participate/judge at the event and having a carpool set up. The Arts and Science project for this month will be an introduction to Silk Banners on February 16th at All Saints Episcopal Church, and on February 2nd (also at All Saints Episcopal Church) we will have a meeting for any members that are interested in going either as a competitor or spectator at Kingdom Arts and Sciences. It is a great opportunity to see what kinds of Arts and Sciences are out there.
A few last items that were raised at January’s populace. HE Joella and I would like to talk to all the Baronial orders over the course of the next few populaces, to see how we as a group can grow the orders and also serve the Barony together. Membership costs will be going up (https://www.sca.org/news/membership-fee-increase-effective-february-15-2024/) and we hope all can renew their memberships to bolster numbers for the Barony and the Kingdom. You need to be a paid member to be an officer, to receive awards, and it will save you $10 on Non-Member Registration fees at events.
We look forward to continued growth in the Barony, fun with new and old friends, and most especially look forward to seeing everyone at Baronial Days or at Populace!

Hail Citadel! The month of October was an amazing success for the Barony, Crown Tournament was a resounding success by all who attended. Team Citadel came together and showed that we are in fact Libra Por Libra (pound for pound) able to run large events and work as a team! All hail Dread Lord Fjolverker and Dread Lady Melissa!
We will not be able to thank everyone who helped, and there was a huge list of friends that came together to make the event today magical and joyful for everyone. HE Joella for pushing to make this event happen, Lord Thorbjorn for being an amazing event steward and project manager, m’lord Arcadio and Lady Alondra for the help managing the food, Lord Iokepa for the absolute works of art for site tokens, Lady Hrefna and Santiago (and his father Raul) working gate, HE Benardo for filling in gaps as needed, Dame Eleanor and her family being tons of hands to help, Lord Grimric and family helping all over the place, m’Lady Mayala with setup and food, m’Lord Trey being an absolute monster of a man helping with set up and tear down, Isabel and Joaquin with their huge help with set up and tear down, the amazing decoration work of Lady Helena and Lord Fredrick being a great attendant. HE Warmin of Belshire’s kind donation of time and efforts to provide breakfast tacos and sandwiches for lunch I am told hit the spot. He has been feeding and taking care of the Citadel for a very long time and we are blessed to have him with us.
Another thank you we want to spell out was all the help of the youth of our Barony. Not just the Children Grim, but Dame Eleanor’s son, Lord Thorbjorn and Lady Hrefna’s two sons, Lord Iokepa’s nephew, my children, and Lord Fredrick’s and m’Lady Tally’s children. I know I am missing others, and they are also awesome helpers. All of our youth have been helping at events and practices. Helping distribute water and food, helping setting up or tearing down, serving as retinue, or helping with younger kids. It is a great feeling to see those of any age, but especially young ones, step up and serve others in all the ways that they do.
We are truly blessed.
The following Baronial awards were given out at Crown Tournament:
The Order of Thermopylae; given for skill at arms and chivalry, to Lord Thorbjorn Trollsbani Dansson
Lux Australis of the Citadel; given for chivalry, arts or service in those 16 and under, to m’Lord Dane Grimson, m’Lady Rayden Grimdottir, and m’Lady Rhiley Grimdottir.

This month was packed full of joy! We attended Cavern City Renaissance Faire late in the month, a very fun event! We made new friends and recruited people from El Paso, which was very exciting. A&S project nights have been moved to the 1st and 3rd Fridays of the month, Populace Day has been moved to Memorial Park and is still the 4th Sunday of the week, be mindful of your combat authorizations and membership expirations. Awards can only be given to people with current memberships, per Society and Kingdom laws. Speaking of Populace Day, Octobers was another huge success with a 8 person Armored Combat tournament and an embarrassment of food. Lady Rusa did an outstanding job organizing the event.
Crown Tournament and our Barony’s 40th anniversary approaches! The event page is located at https://citadel.outlands.org/crown2023/ and will be constantly be updated. We look forward to seeing all our old and new friends there! Siege of the City (https://www.nahrunkabirun.org/siege-of-the-city/) is the other Southern Outlands event for October, we hope as many people from the Barony can make it out. The City of Rocks park is an amazing place for camping and events.

This month was packed full of joy! We attended Clan Wars, and gave out many back scrolls. The weather was absolutely lovely and much fun was had. Our Barony celebrated the nuptials of Lady Kath and m’Lord Arcadio, who proposed to Lady Kath at our Investiture, and there was a mini demo at the wedding reception. A&S project nights have been very successful, we have had a growth of cut-and-thrust fighting in the Barony, and we look forward to cooler days so hopefully mid week practice can re-start.
The big news of August is that the Barony had the winning bid for Crown Tournament in October, which will co-inside with our Barony’s 40th anniversary! The event page is located at https://citadel.outlands.org/crown2023/ and will be constantly be updated. We look forward to seeing all our old and new friends there!

The streak of 100+ degree heat finally broke, and we are thankful for it. This month has been a challenge to stay cool in the heat but we as group have done great. Arts and Science nights have been blockbusters, this months project was wool hats with much success. We encourage all of the populace to bring projects you are working on or ideas for future group projects to Arts and Science nights, first and third Thursdays of the month. Baronial Days have been successes also with great turn out and socializing. Sadly Wednesday evening practices have been put on hold per the Knight Marshal due to heat concerns. Her Excellency Joella traveled to the northern Outlands for Coronation this month, and survived the chaotic travel. In August we have a number of local and regional events including Clan Wars, Sworded Affair, and the nuptials of members of the populace. We look forward to seeing as many of you all there, at Baronial Days, and at Arts and Science Days!

What a glorious month of activities in the Barony. We had a great Populace day with grilling, Arts and Science project days, and a large number of the Barony traveled to Battlemoor. We camped as a Barony, cooked and ate together, and had fun together. The populace also donated their time to work long hours at gate and for that Her Excellency and I are incredibly proud and thankful. Hopefully everyone who traveled to Battlemoor 2023, AS LVIII has showered, slept in their own bed and possibly started on laundry. Her Excellency Joella and I would like to gather at this Sunday’s Baronial Day to talk about the event. A lessons learned talk if you will. What went well, what did not, how we can improve things and have more joy at events. The next camping event will be Clan Wars in August so I hope more of Team Citadel can travel together and camp together.
