Hello everyone! So it is finally time for Arts and Sciences. We have recently acquired a spot for Arts and Sciences day which will be every 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month. The address will be 3500 McRae Blvd, El Paso, TX 79925 at All Saints Episcopal Church from 6 P.M to 8 P.M. Our first meeting will consist of talking about what kind of classes we would like to have, as well as a night of crafts. Bring whatever crafts you are currently working on or would like to start. I’ll be bringing sewing machines in order to teach others how to use it. Who doesn’t love cookies? Do you have a favorite recipe you would like for your friends to taste? Bring a batch to the park this Sunday (4/30) as we join in fellowship for our monthly gathering. The calendar showed the monthly business meeting happening after populace, which normally does not happen. The 4th Sunday happens before the 4th Thursday this month. So we will be moving Baronial day and Populace from April 23rd to April 30th. The April officer and business meeting will still be on the 27th. The Baronial Calendar has been updated.

This weekend commemorates many celebrations (Ramadan, Passover, and Easter), and we all celebrate the threads that unite us as members of the Citadel of the Southern Pass. We wish you all a happy and peaceful holiday season!
We are also joyful for the fun we had as a Barony this week, our Wednesday practice (first in a very long time) went well and it seems that Memorial Park works. Friday, we went to go see the Dungeons and Dragons movie, and got free posters from the theater!
This upcoming week we have Wednesday practice at 6pm, a demo at Chapin High School Fan Con on Thursday, April 13 from 4-8pm, and on Sunday Baronial day and Practice. We invite all who can attend the demo on Thursday; we will have tables set aside for arts and science displays and are encouraging all fencers to come out to do a demo with the high school fencing/dueling club.
In two weeks, the Kingdom of the Outlands will have Crown Tournament hosted by the Barony of Fontaine dans Sable, one of the greatest twice a year displays of pageantry and prowess in the Kingdom. Baron Carlos is going, and if anyone is interested in road tripping, please talk to him. We will not have Baronial Day and Practice on the 22, due to scheduling conflicts, but we encourage everyone to go check out Comic Con downtown.

This Thursday is our officer’s meeting. All members of the populace are invited to join. Planning for events, demos and other projects are on the agenda.

Members of the Citadel populace have graciously sponsored two martial tournaments.
Lord Seamus O’Glacain has sponsored the armored tournament with a Swiss five format (five rounds spear/polearm, sword & shield, Florentine, great sword, and then axe). Prize is the materials to make a new weapon or two.
Lord Frederick Fortescue has sponsored the rapier tournament (format to be determined). Prize is an assortment of feast gear.
We hope all can attend and those watching the combatants bring a small gift or favor to give to a combatant that inspires you or fights with honor.
Having seen the success at Coronation of the Craft Person’s Green, we would like to invite all artisans to set up space and teach/demonstrate their work or projects during the day at Citadel Investiture XIV (weather permitting outside).
What is a Craft Persons Green? Crafts Person Greens are interactive Arts & Sciences displays where the artisans are encouraged to teach at their display. All artisans at any level are encouraged to participate!

His Excellency Bernardo has asked me, Sir Berold, to moderate the Question & Answer event for those individuals who wish to be the next Coronet of our beloved Barony.
The candidates will be sat in front of the populace with 2 couples on each side of the moderator.
There will be a set protocol for the event – *Individuals who have questions will raise their hands for recognition and MUST be recognized by the Moderator before they ask their question. *Individuals may ask as many questions as they wish but may only ask one per recognition. *Individuals may ask the panel the same question OR aim their query at an individual couple or couples.
Candidate couples are allowed TWO minutes between them to answer each question. (Extra time may be allowed by His Excellency Bernardo)
Candidates will be announced at the event.

I hope this letter finds you and yours doing well in these times. Word may or may not have reached you regarding my request to retire from the position of Baron of Citadel. It has been a very rewarding and sometimes challenging experience during these nearly four years. When I stepped up, it was under the promise that I would do everything in my power to continue to build upon the strong and resilient history of the Barony of the Citadel of the Southern Pass. I am very pleased to say that the circumstances under which I am stepping down have achieved many of the goals I set out to accomplish. The energy and enthusiasm coupled with the level of activity we are experiencing in our post-plague era are nothing short of amazing and it is due to the teamwork and dedication of the populace here in the Barony. It would be easy to ride this wave of excitement into the next few years, but it is also the perfect time to hand off the coronet to those who will dedicate their time and effort to ensuring it continues into the future.
During my tenure we have accomplished quite a bit and that is a testament to the hard work and commitment from many of our members. As a leader, it is a tempting proposition to take credit for the great things this group has achieved, but we have succeeded as a Barony and I could not have done any of this without the countless hours and endless effort that it takes to make this all work. We are always looking for officers and people to help put on events and if you’re interested you can get started by talking to me, our Seneschal, or any of our current officers. We even have deputy officer positions to help people get comfortable without any significant commitment to help out when and where they can.
The process of selecting those to follow on from my time has begun. Their Royal Highnesses in consultation with and receiving approval for have announced that they are accepting letters of intent for those seeking to serve as the next Coronets of Citadel. I highly recommend anyone interested, to submit a letter. The process of offering yourself in service, conducting the Q&A, participating in the polling, and being considered is a rewarding and educational experience. Everyone deserves consideration for this position and those who are involved in the decision making process are some of the most caring and thoughtful members of our Kingdom. The position of Baron and Baroness is a special opportunity to give back and experience servant leadership in our shared dream. Below I’ve included the original announcement for those intending to submit their letters.
Greetings Citadel, His Excellency Bernardo has requested to retire from his position as the Baron of Citadel of the Southern Pass. After speaking with Their Majesties Jaxarticus and Anna it has been decided that we will honor His Excellency’s request and begin accepting letters of intent for the next Coronet of Citadel.
Their Royal Majesties along with Ourselves will accept letters until the 20th of November. The Barony will hold a polling on Saturday December 10th at The Feast of St. Edrik, and the investiture of the future Coronet will be held this coming spring.
You may send a letter of intent to Their Royal Majesties (crown@outlands.org) and Their Royal Highnesses (heirs@outlands.org), with copies to the Kingdom Seneschal (seneschal@outlands.org), the Coronet (coronet@southernpass.org), and the Baronial Seneschal (seneschal@southernpass.org).

The Feast of St. Edrik fast approaches and I would like to invite all members of our wonderful populace to create an A&S display for the event. Displays are an informal way to share the interesting Arts and Sciences projects you’ve been working on, including projects that are not yet done. Remember that the Arts and Sciences can include all types of things, from the costumes we wear, and the armor used in combat, to culinary and performing arts. Some of us are returning to play after some time away and others are new to our group, but this is something anyone of any level can do.
